"It was developed by Obuchov and Krupp in 1885 using Krupp M1881 15cm Morser as a starting point. There's also one of these mortars in the St Petersburg museum with a wheeled carriage. I think they were used in WW1 - I'll have to check Shirokorad's encyclopedia"

Shirokorad's encyclopedia is only available in Russian. It' s a very useful reference so long as you don't expect lots of detail about deployments of artillery. He describes the development history, production and technical details of the guns very well. It's quite difficult to find a printed copy of the book and it's very expensive if you can find one.

I don't read Russian so have to go through a tedious process of extracting the pages I want, running them through OCR software and then through Google translate. The quality of the text at the end is very good.

Regards,

Charlie
